Common Mistakes When Starting a Low-Carb Diet

A low-carb diet can be extremely effective for dropping excess fat, and studies show it may also help reduce the risk of insulin resistance and diabetes. The intention behind the diet — to reduce the amount of unhealthy carbs you consume on a regular basis — isn’t inherently a bad idea, but you need to be smart about how you execute it.

Here are some common mistakes to avoid:

Eating too much unhealthy fat

Eating low-carb isn’t an excuse to go nuts on beef, pork, eggs, butter, cheese, and other foods with high trans or saturated fat content. Eating a diet high in trans fat isn’t heart-healthy. Consuming high levels of trans fat may cause your liver to produce more LDL cholesterol, the “bad” cholesterol.

Skimping on Vegetables

Time and time again, people say they don’t feel good eating a diet lower in carbohydrates. And, it turns out they are eating almost no vegetables or fruit. This will not work in the long run. The low-carb diet includes vegetables. In other words, you should be eating more of them than any other food and not forgetting your FRUITS!

Not Enough Sleep

Lack of sleep or a circadian rhythm disorder may be one of the factors. With less energy, it will be more difficult to lose weight. People who are sleep deprived are more likely to store body fat. Lack of sleep also leads to an increased level of ghrelin – the hormone that tells the brain when we are hungry.

Drinking Alcohol

Alcohol is a no-no for those who are trying shed extra pounds. Apart from adding calories, alcohol has other disadvantages when it comes to weight loss. Even if there is no sugar in it, your body can’t store alcohol as fat – it has to metabolise it first.

Not Planning Your Diet

Planning your meals in advance will prevent excessive snacking and help you avoid binging accidents. This doesn’t mean that you will have to track your diet forever but it will help you avoid common mistakes, especially if you are new to the diet.

How to Stop Overthinking

Overthinking everything is unpleasant and keeps you from moving forward and making progress. At an extreme level, overthinking utterly and completely shuts you down and causes severe anxiety. In business, the term analysis paralysis is used to describe this tendency to overthink things. In our everyday lives, it’s witnessed as mental tension, stress, and laziness.

Here are some tips to help you stop overthinking:

Be aware

The first step to stopping yourself from overthinking is to learn when you are doing it. Whenever you notice yourself feeling stressed or anxious take a step back and survey the whole situation.

Realize that you cannot control everything.

Trying to think things through 50 times can be a way to try to control everything. Things never go according to plan, and that is just something everyone has to get used to. Keep yourself from thinking that everything has to be perfect.

Get distracted

When you begin overthinking, get up and change places. Studies show that a new vantage point can be enough to shake you out of a fruitless thought process. You can also try distracting yourself with a new hobby such as running, dancing, yoga, or meditation.

Stay positive

Many times people start to overthink because they are scared. They think of all of the possible things that could potentially go wrong. Instead, start to picture all of the things that can go right and keep those thoughts in the front of your mind.

How to Clean Small Spaces

There are a lot of spaces throughout your home that are famous for collecting dust. Fans, tops of cabinets, under beds, behind furniture, on top of your refrigerator – all great big dust collectors!

Cleaning Behind the Toilet

Cleaning your toilet seems like an obvious thing to do when cleaning the bathroom but sometimes the back of the toilet gets forgotten. Start by using a dry stiff brush to remove loose dust, hair and soil (don’t forget the baseboard). The crevice tool of your vacuum is useful to suck away the debris. Then use a soft brush or sponge dipped in warm water and a disinfectant cleaner to wipe down the area including the back of the toilet base. Rinse with a sponge or cloth dipped in plain water and dry with a soft cloth

Cabinet Tops and Tall Furniture

If you have allowed dust and particles of grease to accumulate on kitchen cabinets, use a sturdy step stool and clean with a soft cloth dipped in a solution of two cups warm water, one teaspoon dishwashing liquid. Wipe away the soil and then rinse with a cloth dipped in plain water. Dry with a soft clean cloth.

Ceiling fan

It is definitely one area of your home that collects the most dust.  Fans can sometimes be annoying to clean.  One of our favorite tricks for cleaning your ceiling fan is to use a pillow case.  Place the pillow case over the fan blade and pull the case towards you.  The dust will then fall into your pillowcase instead of on your bed.  You can then go back over the blades with a cleaning solution if you desire.

Different Ways to Tie your Tie

The Half Windsor Knot produces a singular, neat triangular knot, which is larger than the four in hand knot but smaller than a full windsor knot.

  1. Begin with the wide end of the tie on the right hand side. Keep the wide end of your tie about eight inches to a foot below the skinny end of your tie.
  2. Cross the large end of the necktie over the slimmer end.
  3. Bring the wide end of the tie under the loop.
  4. Bring the wide end of the tie over and through the loop, allowing the back end of the tie to fall through on your right hand.
  5. Bring the tie over the knot, from right to left, wrapping it over and under the knot
  6. Bring the tie through the loop.
  7. Slide the wide end of the tie through the knot.
  8. Fasten the knot and create a dimple when adjusting the knot. While tightening your knot, create a dimple under your knot by pressing in with your index finger as you pinch the sides of the knot with your thumb and middle finger.

The Full Windsor Knot produces a wide, symmetrical triangular knot.  The Windsor Knot is a thick, wide and triangular knot that projects confidence.

  1. Start with the wide end of the necktie on your left, about 12 inches below the skinny end of your tie. This is important to understand so that you can get the knot right hopefully on the first go around!
  2. Cross the wide end of the tie over the skinny end.
  3. Bring the wide end of the tie under the cross and through the loop
  4. The wide end of your tie should out on the right hand side.
  5. Bring the wide end of the tie underneath the knot (from right to left)
  6. When you have taken the wide end underneath the knot, take the wide end of the tie through the loop from the outside.
  7. The wide end of the tie should now be on your left hand side, with the base of your full Windsor knot firmly formed
  8. Wrap the wide end of the tie over the knot (from left to right).
  9. Bring the wide end of the tie underneath the knot and through the loop.
  10. Slide the wide end of the tie through the knot.
  11. Tighten and adjust the knot. While tightening your knot, create a dimple under your knot by pressing in with your index finger as you pinch the sides of the knot with your thumb and middle finger.
