Who doesn’t have a blog? Not really. The power of blogs has been underestimated. There are many misconceptions about who should start a blog and why to maintain one. After all, not everyone writes. However, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t.
You will curate an audience.
It doesn’t matter what industry you are in because everyone needs to sell. Are you a doctor? Well, you’ll need patients. Insurance agents? Musicians? Chefs? Pet groomers? Yes, they all need customers. The best way to get customers is to convert them from your audience. You have a way to get them interested in what you do and the Internet gives you an easy way to do that.
You will stand out.
This is better than a business card. When was the last time you acquired a client through a business card? Instead of sharing a piece of disposable paper, share a valuable resource. Do more than just tell your audience your name and title. Show them why you deserve that title. An active blog makes you an authority in your field.
You will create opportunities.
Life is unpredictable. You don’t know what’s coming your way. However, it’s nice to be prepared and to keep your options open. Nothing hurts business more than closed doors. A blog makes you available to connecting. You are creating a channel where your audience can reach out to you. This leaves the door open for speaking engagements and other forms of collaboration.
You will become a better thinker.
Writing is a form of communication and it is arguably the most important form. Learning to communicate better will allow you to think more strategically about the words you chose and the way you present them. All of this make you a better thinker. You will learn how to organize your thought and articulate them effectively.
You will take control over your image.
This is incredibly important. Everyone in the world is entitled to judgement, but it is a little unfair to have your reputation solely at the mercy of others. You can take full control over your personal brand with the right kind of blogging. Instead of waiting for media and PR companies to decide to feature you, you can present yourself to the audience you want.
