Jack of all trades, but a master of none.
How often have you heard this phrase? It’s common enough to be considered a cliché. Does this describe you? It’s important for you to be able to carry many torches, especially if you run your own business. There isn’t a problem with having too many talents. Of course, that implies that you are exceptional at everything you do.
That isn’t the reality for anyone. You can’t become a singer of you can’t carry a tune. You must practice. However, not everyone is cut out for everything. There are some things that you will be able to do better than others. Find your strengths and do what you can.
If you don’t know your strengths, then you won’t be using them.
Create a character sketch (of yourself)
Who are you? Ask yourself who you really are. Write down your traits, abilities, hobbies – anything relevant to you. Creating a quick summary of who you are will get you thinking about what your strengths are are what you can do.
Create a list of daily activities
We tend to occupy ourselves with things we like and things we are good at. Making of list of daily activities will show clear patterns of what you do. Those activities won’t show your skills clearly. If you like gardening, then maybe it’s because you have an instinct to care for things. If you like reading, then maybe you have strong interpretive skills.
Create a list of things you hate doing.
Taking from what was written before, you could determine that we avoid things we hate because we aren’t good at them. Also, in the principle of wholeness, you determine that when you know what isn’t them you know is. If you know what activities you avoid, you can assess why you avoid them. That cancels out your weaknesses.
